Summary: Tips for musicians regarding what is appropriate behaviour in band rehearsals and performances.
What is Good Etiquette:
Good etiquite is the behaviour that is considered appropriate and polite while reheasing, performing or listening to a live performance.
Good reheasal or performance etiquette shows respect for the conductor, performers, audience members, and the music that is being performed.
  • Never be late to a reheasal. Early is better. Band members should be in their seats and warming up at least 10 minutes prior to the reheasal or performance. it goes without saying, never be late to a performance.
  • Always bring a couple of sharpened pencils and a rubber to reheasals.
  • Please notify the conductor beforehand if you are unable to attend a reheasal or playing engagement.
  • Show respect to other band members.
  • Refrain from unnecesary talking during reheasal.
  • Always position your stand so that you can see both your music and the conductor.
  • Posture.  Sit slightly forward and don't slouch.  Feet on floor.
  • Pay careful attention to the conductor and section leaders.
  • Always practice your parts and be ready to play everything well.
  • Always have your instrument well maintained.
  • At the end of rehearsal/performance pack up your chair, music stand and assist with packing up all band equipment before returning home.
  • Enjoy yourself but pay close attention. if you make a mistake, don't let it show by your face or demeanor.
  • Make sure your shirt is tucked in at concerts. No hoodies or caps.
  • Beanies are allowed at reheasals on cold  nights.
